Colonel Truman Crawford Portrait Project Colonel Truman Crawford Portrait Project

LtCol Mike Kessler, USMC (Ret), CHA's Vice President for Special Projects, is spearheading the fund drive to raise money for a portrait of Colonel Truman Crawford, USMC (Ret), that will hang in Crawford Hall (formerly Sousa Hall), the new home of the Commandant's Own, The United States Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps. Col Crawford served as the Director of the Drum and Bugle Corps from 1973-1998 and died in March 2003.

Artist John Boyd Martin will create the portrait from several pictures provided him by the Drum and Bugle Corps, which include the following:

The portrait will be as professionally done in illustration as Truman was in the conduct of his music. Consequently, the cost of such an undertaking will require contributions from his many admirers from around the globe. Our goal is to raise $35,000 to cover the cost of the portrait and ancillary items (frame, lighting, etc.).

Mr. Martin is one of the most highly sought-after portrait painters of our time. He has a gift for creating a strong, vibrant, accurate likeness, while capturing and maintaining the warmth and essence of his subjects. Mr. Martin's distinctive style is achieved through the use of a broad brush stroke and a palette of rich, diversified colors. The end result is always a treasured success. More information about this artist, including samples of his work, can be found at: Portrait Consultants.

Those interested in contributing to this masterpiece are asked to send a check or money order made out to The CHA - Truman Crawford Fund and mail it to:
